As cooler temperatures of fall start to arrive, beauty of colorful leaves become more present along mountain faces of the Sauratown Mountains in Stokes County, North Carolina. The Stokes Stomp Festival on the Dan River ushers in Festival Season, with it’s 47th annual event held along the banks of the mighty Dan River in Danbury, NC on Saturday, September 11th. This one day event is a long enjoyed community staple kicking off with a parade through town of community organizations, fire trucks, marching bands and more. The 2021 event also coincides with the 20th Patriots Day and the Stokes County Arts Council is proud to announce that the 208th Army Band will perform various sets of music with their concert band, jazz and rock band ensembles. The Army Band will also be Grand Marshall of the Town of Danbury Parade leading the march down to Moratock Park to kick off Stokes Stomp. Music and entertainment line up will include other local musicians and traditional bluegrass music that will have attendees Stompin’ the ground with traditional flatfoot dancing. Moratock Park will be filled with vendors of arts, crafts and handmade items for purchase, food trucks will serve up delicious treats, there will be kids river activities, a children’s area, demonstrators displaying their craft and conclude with the annual rubber duck regatta.

Following Stokes Stomp weekend make a return trip for more relaxed country living, general store visits, and the 70th annual Stokes County Agricultural Fair running September 14-18 boasting free entertainment nightly. On September 18th stroll Main Street Walnut Cove for the newest local event, sure to become an annual hit, Walnut Cove FallFest presented by The Cove Group. Attendees will enjoy music, food, shopping, dancing, and fun. While in town stop in and enjoy a meal with one of many local dining establishments or complete your holiday shopping list early with antiquing along Main Street.
