Home For The Holidays Brings Back Hendersonville Hallmarks

Downtown Hendersonville at Christmas time

Hendersonville, NC

This holiday season Hendersonville welcomes back some of its favorite traditions for its Home for the Holidays celebration. The festivities begin in November and continue through the New Year.

The Downtown Street Lighting once again kicks off the heart of the holidays on Nov. 26, the day after Thanksgiving. Onlookers gather at the Historic Courthouse as local musicians Laura Laughter and Tim Levene lead familiar carols accompanied by warm drinks and delicious treats.

At dusk, the countdown begins for Santa’s arrival. When the man of the hour makes his appearance, he flips a switch to illuminate Main Street and the Christmas tree on the courthouse square with thousands of twinkling lights.

Also on Nov. 26, Flat Rock Playhouse debuts “A Flat Rock Playhouse Christmas.”

The original show, which is new every year, features top-notch choreography by the Playhouse’s own artistic associate, vocal performances by the Flat Rock Playhouse chorus and dance numbers from Pat’s School of Dance.

The holiday revue includes seasonal favorites along with new adaptations and medleys. After last year’s virtual production due to the pandemic, the show fills the stage and attendees with joy. “A Flat Rock Playhouse Christmas” runs through Dec. 19.

Children and adults will have fun with the Peppermint Bear Scavenger Hunt, which runs Nov. 26-Dec. 23. Help mama bear find her missing black bear cubs, who are scattered across two dozen stores along Hendersonville’s Main Street.

Pick up a brochure map at the Visitor Center or download one online, and use it as a guide to find Peppermint’s cubs. You might even get some shopping done along the way as your search leads you to galleries and boutiques.

Once you’ve found at least 12 cubs, drop off your map in the mailbox at the Visitor Center for a chance to win a prize.

To take advantage of multiple Home for the Holidays events, plan an overnight stay at one of Hendersonville’s hotels, cabins or bed-and-breakfasts.
