Spring Into Festivals In Granville County

Granville County, NC

Spring has arrived! It’s the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. In Granville County, spring also means a season filled with festivals and community gatherings, all with that unique Carolina charm.

The fun kicks off the last two-weekends in March with the “Viking Experience.” This one-of-a-kind festival brings together interactive characters and reenactors, and there’s something for everyone in the family including the “Fight Pit” the “Dragon Hunting” and the “Mermaid Experience.”  While some festival-goers may have Viking ancestry, most just come for the fascinating lore or to spend a fun day with loved ones.

Spring also brings the arts to the forefront. On the first two weekends of April (April 4-6 and April 12-13), the Cedar Creek Gallery in Creedmoor will host its Festival. Explore the beautiful gardens, meet local and national artists, and watch them demonstrate their craft. A month later, on May 3rd , Oxford will continue the arts celebration with its “Main Street Arts & Wine Festival,” featuring live music, art exhibits, and wine sampling.

If spring is here, summer is on the way. which means it’s Beach Music Season.  Shag to the beat at the Bullock Beach Music Blast featuring Jim Quick & Coastline along with Konnection. Saturday April 19th from 5:00 – 10:00 pm

Looking for something a bit different? How about seeing men in skirts? These aren’t just any skirts – they’re kilts! On Saturday, April 26th, athletes will don kilts for the Central North Carolina Highland Games in Oxford. The day promises great food, music, and plenty of family fun. Even better, all proceeds go to support the Central Children’s Home of North Carolina.

Of course, spring wouldn’t be complete without community gatherings. Two of Granville County’s most beloved events are the John Chavis Historical Society’s CultureFest on May 10th and the Butner Summer Festival at the end of May (May 31st and June 1st). CultureFest highlights the area’s heritage and celebrates the diversity of the community. Then, the Butner festival kicks off with a Friday night dance and continues on Saturday with live music, a BBQ chicken cook-off, food and craft vendors, kids’ activities and rides, a tractor show, and an unbeatable car show!
