Pedal Mountainous Terrain And Zip Through Tree Tops In Stokes

Beat the heat this summer, feel the mountain breeze rushes past you on a zip line or mountain bike adventure in the great outdoors of Stokes County, North Carolina. Take to Hanging Rock State Park trails on two wheels along single track, rock ledge berms, fast flows, stream crossings, and stunning views of the Sauratown Mountains. 

Recently expanded Moore’s Springs mountain bike trails offer an additional eight miles of beginner, intermediate, and advanced trails like the Rattler, a half mile trail of varying difficulty, sure to rattle even the most experienced. While working your way to the top, you’ll need extra pedal strength to push up short hills before the next downhill. Trail design provides flows and berms sprinkled with rocks throughout, sure to keep you on your toes.

Work on the Moore’s Springs trail system began in 2009, supported by a federal stimulus program, spearheaded by local trail builder Tony McGee, and built utilizing help of many volunteers. Within a years’ time the crew had blazed three miles of trial, doubling that to six miles of mountain bike paths the following year. In April of 2019 Hanging Rock officially opened the Black Racer, Copperhead Connector, Hognose, King Snake, Rattler and Ring Neck. Mountain Bike trails at the park now total nearly 15 miles, perfect for a thrill on two wheels or a casual hike by foot.

Cool off after a summer day of hiking or paddling the Dan River with a stop to Carolina Ziplines, less than 10 miles away from Danbury, NC. Carolina Ziplines is a family owned and operated location for adventure, team building, or family and friend outings. Zip your way through the tree top canopy from platform to platform or race to see who is fastest on the tandem line. Bring a picnic or grab food in town and enjoy the outdoors on this over 27 acre historic homestead, pet or feed Homer the donkey, and complete 11 ziplines for ages three and up.

Finish out a day of exploration in the city of King, the Parks and Recreation Department has a full schedule of events and activities at Recreation Acres, Central Park and areas throughout the city. On Friday, June 21st at dusk enjoy a movie under the stars at Central Park Amphitheater as part of the Summer Triad Movie Series.
