The Beaufort Film Society is pleased to present the 13th annual Beaufort International Film Festival February 19 – 24, 2019. Our 2018 festival welcomed over 14,000 film lovers to Beaufort for 5 fun filled days of movie watching and star gazing all with the beautiful backdrop of the marshes of the Carolina Sea Islands. Come experience what has been called by many as the “best little film festival in the southeast.”
This year our festival will be 6 days!!!! We will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 19th @ 6:00 pm and end on Sunday night, Feb. 24th around 11:00 pm.
The Pat Conroy Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Paul Sorvino at the Awards Gala taking place on Sunday, February 24th at 6:00 pm (Red Carpet Reception) and the Awards Gala begins promptly at 7:00 pm at the University of South Carolina, Beaufort, Center for the Arts. This award is named for Best Selling Author and Academy Award nominated Screenwriter Pat Conroy who was a long time resident of Beaufort, SC before his death of pancreatic cancer in March 2016. Pat Conroy was instrumental in bringing films to Beaufort that BIFF felt it fitting to name an award after this famous author. Paul Sorvino’s resume is as long and varied and includes over one hundred eighty movies and television shows, two operas, three Broadway plays, musicals on Broadway and at major theaters across the country. For THAT CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON, he won six awards including the New York Drama Critics Award for Best Actor, Drama Desk, Obie, Outer Critics Circle, Clarence Derwent awards and a Tony nomination for playing the rich, morally bankrupt Phil Romano. TV has seen him as “THE OLDEST ROOKIE”, in LAW AND ORDER, THAT’S LIFE, BERT D’ANGELO SUPERSTAR with stints on STILL STANDING as well as many singing appearances (He is an internationally known operatic tenor). Public Television has aired his special “PAUL SORVINO SINGS” (he can be heard on the album of the same name). TV was also the medium for DUMMY, the Peabody award-winning drama in which he played Lowell Myers, the ground-breaking deaf trial lawyer.His films include GOODFELLAS, NIXON (as Henry Kissinger), REDS, MONEY TALKS, SEE SPOT RUN, THE BRINKS JOB, BULWORTH, MAMBO ITALIANO, ROMEO AND JULIET, THE COOLER, DICK TRACY, THE BRONX BULL and and many, many others.
Joyce Gilliard is a Published Author, Activist, Educator, Motivational Speaker, Founder of the SC Hair & Makeup Network And Founder of the Non-Profit Organization, iSAFE! TV & FiLM, LLC and has nearly 30 years experience as a Hairstylist. She is the mother of 3 and married to retired Army Sergeant First Class Tracy Gilliard, Sr. For her extraordinary achievements in the Film and Television industries she will be presented the prestigious “Behind the Scenes” Award at the 13th Annual Beaufort International Film Festival taking place February 19-24, 2019 at the Awards Gala. During the festival, Joyce will share her experiences and instruct a workshop on safety on television and film production sets through education, trainings, awareness, accountability and visibility.
The following categories of Features, Documentary, Animation, Short Films, Student Films, and Screenplays will receive the prestigious Jean Ribaut Awards. Other awards to be presented will be Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Comedy, and Audience Choice.
The Opening Night Filmmakers Receptoin will take place on Tuesday February 19th @ 6:00 pm at Tabby Place, 913 Port Republic Street , Downtown Beaufort. Dress code: Business casual. Advanced Ticket Sales only – No sales at the door.
Screenings on Wednesday, Feb. 20, Thursday, Feb. 21, Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23 to be held at the University of South Carolina, Beaufort, Center for the Arts, located at 805 Carteret Street, Beaufort, SC 29902. Online Ticket Sales and at the Door Sales for all screenings. Daily tickets or individual screening tickets may be purchased.
