Surry County, North Carolina
Savor the flavors of North Carolina wine country at the annual Yadkin Valley Wine Festival on Saturday, May 21, at Elkin Municipal Park.
The park setting is unlike most wine festivals, allowing people to bring blankets and chairs to spread out and relax. Admission entitles patrons to tastings from all participating wineries, along with live music from The Castaways, known throughout the Carolinas for their unique mix of beach, soul and rock & roll.
Festivities include food trucks, contests, children’s activities and vendor displays, not to mention the annual stomping of the grapes tradition.
Purchase bottles of your favorite Yadkin Valley vintages and they will be taken directly to a tent near the exit and held for pick-up as you leave. Another convenience is a shuttle service that runs all afternoon to and from hotels in the Elkin area.
Cycling enthusiasts can start the day by riding the Tour de Vino. It features rides ranging from 30 to 100 miles along the scenic byways of Surry, Wilkes and Yadkin counties. The routes weave through the Yadkin Valley, passing several vineyards and wineries.
Tickets are $22 in advance and $30 at the gate. Non-tasting tickets are $5 for ages 16 and up. Children under 16 admitted free. VIP tickets are $100 and include preferred parking, expedited entry, t-shirt and access to a hospitality tent serving food.
