Now that engagement season has passed, brides-to-be are planning their dream weddings. The rolling hills of Surry County in the Yadkin Valley wine region create a beautiful setting for such occasions.

While many venues throughout Surry County are ideal for weddings, these four places stand out when brides choose to hold their special day in wine country.

The Barn at Heritage Farm in the countryside outside Dobson sits on property that has been in the same family for six generations. A recent renovation transformed it to 10,000-square-foot showplace for weddings for up to 500 guests. Better yet, it is across the road from Shelton Vineyards, the largest family-owned estate winery in North Carolina, and works closely with the winery.

From its hilltop perch, The Barn at Heritage Farm has a sweeping view of surrounding mountains, including the landmark knob atop Pilot Mountain.

JOLO Winery & Vineyards in Pilot Mountain is a boutique winery with an upscale atmosphere. A gazebo overlooking Pilot Mountain is a natural spot for ceremonies, while the large pavilion is popular for receptions. In-house catering and event specialists work with couples to personalize their perfect day, and there is an ultra-luxurious honeymoon suite on property.

For those looking for a downtown experience, Coley Hall at The Liberty is an industrial-chic venue on Elkin’s Main Street. Once home to a tobacco warehouse, Coley Hall has exposed brick walls, century-old overhead beams and hardwood floors smoothed by decades of footsteps. The distinctive architecture allows brides to keep things simple by letting the building’s character show through.

Coley’s main hall accommodates more than 500 people, while smaller spaces, such as the Roth room and courtyard, provide more intimate settings.

Round Peak Vineyard featured unobstructed views of the Blue Ridge Mountains just outside Mount Airy. A gazebo allows for vineyard ceremonies with a mountain backdrop, while receptions take place on the covered back deck and crush pad. The surrounding lawn provides space for games and a bonfire.
