Banner Elk Art Show Is The Perfect Getaway This Month

Banner Elk

The cool mountains of Banner Elk provide an ideal backdrop for the Art on the Green show this Memorial Day weekend. This hand-crafted art show transforms the grounds of Historic Banner Elk School into a gallery filled with works from local and regional artists, May 25-26.

The Memorial Day weekend show is the first of three taking place throughout the summer. The second show occurs July Fourth weekend, July 6-7, and the final show is Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31-Sept. 1.

The Memorial Day show includes dozens of local and regional artists. They represent a variety of media, such as metal, glass, ceramics, wood, watercolor, acrylics and oil.

“I hope attendees find our town to be a place they want to return and tell other people about,” says Kimberly Tufts, show director. “I also hope they leave with something tangible, that they find a new piece of artwork and build a relationship with an artist that enriches their life.”

Show grounds are in the heart of this Blue Ridge mountain resort town. It is an easy walk to many accommodations and restaurants in Banner Elk.

Banner Elk is known as the “culinary hot spot of the NC High Country” with more than a dozen independent restaurants offering a variety of cuisine choices.

“We have a rich heritage that makes us special, and I think people feel that when they’re here,” Tufts says.

Proceeds from Art on the Greene go to renovation efforts at the Historic Banner Elk School, which is home to a community artists gallery, a book exchange and Ensemble Stage, a professional theater troupe.

Art on the Greene has no admission fee. Hours are 10a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. For info, visit www.BannerElk.com or call 828-387-0581
