Art & History Meet For Brunch At The Vermeer Bed & Breakfast

One of the best things about my job and life is that at any given moment, I can pack a bag and head out in any direction. The beauty here in N.C. is incredible and I love getting “lost” in my backyard… so to speak.

This time, we headed towards the small quaint town of Mount Airy. We found this stunning 1886 Queen Anne Historical Bed & Breakfast called The Vermeer. Just two blocks off the main street. The perfect spot for us to go exploring.

Upon check-in Linda, the owner gave us a tour of the charming house with it’s new & old blended to perfection. One room is a working Gallery for Elbert’s Plein air art EG Shubert Studio, and his art is displayed throughout the house to enjoy.  How appropriate that they named each room with Impression and Post-Impression artists from Monet, Van Gogh, Zorn, Picasso and of course Vermeer.

Our room was the “Monet,” light and airy with glimmers of sunlight coming in overlooking the Hidden Garden patio.  As we settled in Linda brought out this fantastic charcuterie board to the main sitting room with six different kinds of cheese, salami, purple chow chow, pickles, olives, jam, artichoke hearts, and crackers to enjoy. After chatting a bit with Linda, we found out that she hosts an array of events to enjoy throughout the year like… “Eat your Yard.”  I love this one, Linda has a green thumb and is versed in culinary herbs, something she picked up from her Grandmother.

After bidding farewell to our host, we strolled down Main Street stopping at local Antique shops. We stumbled upon Uncorked an adorable little wine shop that caters to local wines and so much more. A bottle of a red blend had my name on it so of course, we had to partake. We ended up enjoying a glass by the window while watching the little town get sleepy as the day was ending.

Returning to the Vermeer we fell into the magical bed in the “Monet” room. It was luxurious, and it pulled you in and engulfed you, bringing you into that comfy state that you never want to leave. I’m looking forward to our next visit.
