Catawba Valley Pottery & Antiques Festival

Hickory, NC

The Catawba Valley Pottery & Antiques Festival which is hosted at the Hickory Metro Convention Center will take place March 26, 2022, with the wildly popular preview party the night of March 25th. This event brings potters and antique dealers to the Hickory area from all over the southeast and features over 110 vendors.

The Pottery Festival was created to showcase the history of Catawba Valley alkaline glazed stoneware (a formula that traveled from China through Charleston and up to the Catawba Valley region during the 18th century) and the potters who continually produce this traditional utilitarian ware. Historically most potters utilized wood-fired kilns at home sites and relied on word-of-mouth sales. Thus, the Catawba Valley Pottery & Antiques Festival provides an annual sale where pottery made in the Catawba Valley can be purchased. Over the years, development and growth have allowed the festival to include potters from across the state and the South, as well as dealers offering historical pottery and antiques and providing a context for understanding the history and use of pottery in the South. The event is a non-profit event which benefits the Historical Association of Catawba County.

The festival is well known for its extensive history in pottery from famous names such as Steve Abee, Kim Ellington, Charlie Lisk & more.

The antiques are also a highlight bringing together our heritage and the heritage of southern settlers. Collectors and those new to antiquing will find treasures around every corner of the show. Visitors are sure to experience history, artisanship and even some live demonstrations of pottery being thrown by well-known names.

Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door – $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 3-12. For those interested in the Friday Night Preview Party (usually a sell-out) tickets are $55.00 and include early buying opportunities, live music, a chance to win one of ten drawings for $20.00 gift certificates to be used at the festival, two complimentary drinks, a cash bar, and tables of southern fare.
