The Collective is a classic rock, blues and country band from the mountains of North Carolina. They’ve evolved into a crowd-pleasing favorite over 20 years of playing all types of music. With Dave Calvert on lead guitar and vocals, Jen Calvert on vocals, Dennis Murphy on sax and vocals, Patrick McConkey on harmonica, percussion and vocals, David Cox on drums, Randy Buchanan on bass guitar, Mike Stamey on guitar, they can cover almost any song. They play over 300 covers and have a substantial book of originals, so no two shows are ever the same.
Rockit Science performs Saturday, August 3rd at the Beech Mountain Resort Taproom from 7-9:30 pm. Rockit Science was formed in 2016 by founding members/guitarists Hillary Edwards and Scott Nanney. The band formed out of their desire to play the kind of music they enjoyed listening to growing up. They created a powerhouse cover band, focusing on 70’s/80’s rock as well as current popular songs. With the powerful vocals of Ruth Glennon as lead singer, they cover a whole range of songs, from Pat Benatar and Heart to Pink and more. Amy Edwards, keyboardist and backing vocals adds to the versatility & synergy of the band. With Sam Kanakanui on bass and additional backing vocals, and drummer Vernon Jordan, a long-time member of the local music scene in North Carolina, there’s nothing they can’t play, and they keep the crowd pumped up and on their feet.
Soul Benefactor caps off the Throwback Weekend on Sunday, August 4th with a performance at the Famous Brick Oven’s outdoor stage from 2-4 pm. This band, headed by Dave Brewer on drums and vocals, breathes new life into the songs of the greats of the 60’s and 70’s. With Aaron Burleson on keys and vocals, Tim Salt on bass, Dustin Hofsess on guitar and vocals, Beaver Robinette on sax, Ross Robinette and Rusty Smith on trumpet and Jordan Craig on trombone, their repertoire includes the best of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Billy Preston, Al Greene, The Rolling Stones, Joe Cocker, Otis Redding, and many more. This band brings a fresh and funky feel to the classics you know and love.
If all this music isn’t enough for you, there is also an iconic craft festival on the mountain on Saturday, August 3rd. The grassy area beside Fred’s General Mercantile is the site for the annual Crafts on the Green, which features over fifty vendors, many of whom return year after year for the wonderful crowds. This event also features music and food, and there is always something new to discover.
Tickets for Friday night and Saturday are $10 each or both shows for $15 at www.beechmountainchamber.com. Sunday’s show is free.
