Yadkin Valley’s top wine festival uncorks its 18th edition with an all-star lineup of wineries and live music in Elkin, NC

Yadkin Valley’s top wine festival uncorks its 18th edition with an all-star lineup of wineries and live music in Elkin, NC, on Saturday, May 18.

The Yadkin Valley Wine Festival attracts wine aficionados from near and far with tasting booths from two dozen wineries and a full afternoon of music headlined by The Catalinas. All this takes place in a picturesque setting at Elkin Municipal Park.

Festival goers can bring chairs or set out blankets and enjoy an afternoon of sipping and purchasing wines, sampling cuisine from multiple food trucks, and listening (or dancing) to music. Gates open at 11 a.m. and the first band, Legacy Motown Review, plays from noon to 2 p.m. The Catalinas take the stage at 3 p.m. and perform their legendary style of Carolina beach music for the remainder of the day until gates close at 5 p.m.

The well-organized festival offers two perks of convenience. The first is a wine check service for those who purchase bottles and prefer not to carry them around all day. Purchases are taken directly to a wine check tent near the exit and held for pick-up as patrons leave. The second perk is $5 shuttle service all afternoon to/from hotels in the Elkin area.

Food truck offerings range across the culinary spectrum. Meanwhile, the afternoon grape stomp, featuring 100 pounds of grapes, is always a big hit with children and adults.

Cycling enthusiasts can start the day by riding the Tour de Vino, which offers five rides ranging from 30 to 100 miles and includes complimentary admission to the wine festival.

“We’re very proud of all these wineries here in the Yadkin Valley,” says festival organizer Myra Cook of the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce. “Year after year, the vineyards keep winning national awards and even international awards.”

Yadkin Valley Wine Festival tickets are $22 in advance and $30 at the gate.
