Where2GO… Stress Distancing Destinations

Let The Camping Begin!

It is never the wrong time to hit the road and go exploring. We packed up the Sylvan Sport GO™and hit the road. To where you ask? This time we headed to Grandfather Campground in Banner Elk. One of my many favorites.

With 32 Acres of tenting, RV sites, and Cabins located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, how could you go wrong with that?

We got a site close to the banks of the Watauga River. There is so much to do in this little area whitewater rafting, skiing, tubing, golf, fishing, hiking, with fire rings at each campsite, some with grills! There is also gem mining and trout fishing next door and that’s just a start.

At the end of the day we fell asleep to the sound of the river, and watching the lightning bugs. It could not have been more beautiful. In the morning we took a short walk to The Grandview Restaurant. It is like going to Grandma’s house for breakfast. Livermush, corned beef & country ham, all the hearty staples you would expect at the base of Grandfather Mountain. With 43 years in business they have got it down to a science.

After a full day of activities, we ended up at The Old Hampton Store Barbeque & Tavern. A family-run restaurant, general store, and tavern in a historic general store that is nearly 100 years old. Old Hampton Store is the perfect stop for some BBQ & Bourbon or a local brew. Such a quaint country place that also has an Art gallery, antiques, music, ample open outdoor seating.

We loved slipping back in time at this cozy hot spot off the beaten path.
