Trolley Fun In The Mountains

The Ridgeline Trolley runs custom trips in the foothills and mountains of Burke County. Morganton is the county seat.

The trolley was built in 1992 by the Chance Trolley Corp in Wichita, Kansas. Its early life was spent in Dayton, Ohio where it was called the “Wright Flyer.” Later, it was purchased by a company near Charlotte who used it for wedding and shuttles at special events.

The trolley came to Morganton in 2016 and was renamed the “Ridgeline Trolley” after the numerous mountain ridges in the area. Most early trolleys had a line number so that passengers knew which trolley to get on as they were using them for inner city transportation. This trolley line is 1780 which references the year the Overmountain Men encamped in Morganton prior to defeating the British at the Battle of Kings Mountain.

The Ridgeline Trolley adds a great sense of nostalgia to any event or tour. This trolley has hosted Beer, Barbeque and Whiskey tours as well as Fall Color tours and Wine Hops. One of the most popular uses is for the transportation of wedding guests and wedding parties. The trolley will travel outside of Burke County for weddings.

The trolley is owned and operated by the Burke County Tourism Development Authority.
