Ditch the crowds for Caswell County! Hike with mushroom foragers, sip sodas at the disc golf clubhouse, or relax in Milton.
Caswell County, NC
March, 2026
As the South begins to thaw this spring, you don’t have to look far to find a welcoming place to get outside and enjoy the season. If you’re needing to get out but want to avoid traffic and crowds, Caswell County has two small towns that make great day trips.
In Yanceyville, local trails offer several miles of wooded hiking and biking. Keep an eye out for groups of local mushroom enthusiasts foraging along the way. The Caswell Community Arboretum, located behind the historic courthouse on the town square, provides a serene setting to observe honeybees and other pollinators among native plants and flowers. A gentle water feature and shady gazebo make the arboretum an ideal spot to pause and relax.
The Flying Disc Clubhouse is a favorite destination for disc golf enthusiasts across the region, featuring both challenging and beginner-friendly courses.
The clubhouse includes a pro shop for disc and gear purchases,
North Carolina craft beer on tap and in cans, and an old-fashioned soda fountain serving handcrafted sodas made on the spot. Food trucks, live music, and a
calendar of tournaments bring extra energy weekends.
In Milton, visitors can stroll along the Milton Heritage Greenway and learn about the town’s history through educational plaques placed along the route. The greenway is designated as an ecoExplore site for children, part of a program developed by the North Carolina Arboretum. Just around the corner, Milton 66 Beer Garden offers a family- and pet-friendly outdoor space with plants, live music, and food trucks every weekend. The taproom serves craft beer and other beverages, including slushies and Italian sodas, snacks and more.
For those wishing to stay overnight, Milton offers beautifully restored historic homes available for booking along Broad Street.
Additional nearby attractions include the Virginia International Raceway, located just minutes from Milton, and Hyco Lake, approximately ten minutes away, where visitors can enjoy a variety of water sports. Milton and Yanceyville also feature multiple historic sites, galleries, museums, shops, and restaurants worth exploring.
As the days grow longer and the weather turns warmer, we hope you’ll join us for a few days in Caswell County, we’ve got the porch light on for you.
