Haywood County, NC
Come and be prepared for an unforgettable experience at the third annual Visit Haywood Ice Fest Weekend, returning from Jan. 30 to Feb. 2, 2025. This exciting festival celebrates winter with activities, events, and culinary delights across Haywood County’s charming mountain towns.
The festival has expanded its offerings with ice sculptures, snowy playgrounds, and winter birding excursions, featuring new attractions and beloved traditions such as the Downtown Waynesville Ice Stroll and the Maggie Valley Ice Festival. “Every year, the festival has grown, and the creativity of our local community is astounding,” said Corrina Ruffieux, Visit Haywood Executive Director. “It’s fantastic to see our five mountain towns—Maggie Valley, Waynesville, Canton, Clyde, and Lake Junaluska—come together to transform the county into a premier winter destination.”
Kicking off the weekend, the “Cool Jazz” concert at HART Theatre will feature Grammy-nominated artist Alfredo Rodriguez, presented in partnership with the Haywood Arts Council. On Jan. 31, Haywood County Recreation and Parks will host a winter birding excursion at Lake Junaluska, offering a chance to spot winter residents such as loons, pine siskins, and the elusive fox sparrow. Feb. 1 brings an ice fishing excursion catering to families, beginners, and experts alike. The Downtown Ice Stroll will debut a new 21+ “Chill Zone,” where visitors can relax with local beverages, enjoy live music, and watch fire performers add an extra spark to the evening.
Returning favorites include the Frosty 5K at Haywood Community College, the Cataloochee Ski Torch Run, and the ice-skating rink in Canton. Local restaurants and shops will offer limited-time specials, and lodging discounts will be available throughout the county.
