Downtown Elkin, NC

Reevestock Music Festival returns at a different time of year, but with the same format of providing an eclectic mix of musical talent.

This grassroots Yadkin Valley music festival, previously held in August, takes place in downtown Elkin on Friday evening, Oct. 11, and moves to Elkin’s Hidden Amphitheater for a full slate of bands on Saturday, Oct. 12. A desire for better weather prompted the seasonal shift.

Saturday’s headliner Brent Cobb is a returning Reevestock performer. The Georgia native is a Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter who relies on his Southern roots for musical inspiration. He describes his style as Southern eclectic, which encompasses rock, country, blues and soul.

Cobb takes the stage at 8:15 p.m. Prior to Cobb, Time Sawyer performs at 6:50 p.m. Time Sawyer has local ties and a sound that runs the gamut from introspective ballads to high-energy crowd-pleasers with songs that settle into that rootsy sweet spot where folk, alt-country and rock join as one.

Saturday’s lineup also includes: Jonathan Scales Fourchestra at 5:35 p.m.; Cordovas at 4:20 p.m.; Victoria Victoria at 3 p.m.; Mike McKenna Jr. at 2 p.m.; and Darby Wilcox at 1 p.m.

“There’s so much great music out there that we can never discover it all on our own,” says Sam Tayloe, festival organizer and Time Sawyer band member. “We have folks tell us year after year that Reevestock introduced them to a band they weren’t aware of. It’s great to provide that new experience for folks that they can then continue to enjoy at home.”

Friday evening’s music takes place at The Reeves Theater, downtown Elkin’s art deco showplace. The 8 p.m. show is headlined by Amythyst Kiah. The Tennessee native blends alternative rock, which first sparked her musical passion, with roots and old-time sounds. Rolling Stone called her “one of Americana’s great up-and-coming secrets.” Maia Kamil opens the show with a sound that reflects her international travels as well as North Carolina, where she calls home.

Friday’s pre-concert festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m. with a free block party on Elkin’s Main Street with DJ Charlie Brown Superstar.

Tickets for the Friday evening concert are $28-$34. Saturday tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the gate. Kids 12 and younger are admitted free on Saturday.
