Feathers, Drums, And Frybread Just Gave Your Saturday Plans A Major Upgrade

City of Eden, Rockingham County, NC
March, 2026

Step into a world of vibrant color, rhythmic drumbeats, and centuries-old tradition! Gates open at 10am with the Grand Entry at noon Saturday, April 25, 2026, the City of Eden Youth Powwow returns to Morehead High School for its 4th annual celebration. Whether you’re a lifelong fan of Indigenous culture or a first-time visitor, this event promises a day of high-energy adventure right in the heart of Rockingham County.

While many North Carolina powwows have decades of history, Eden’s gathering is special because it was the first in the state to be entirely youth-centered. Launched to empower the next generation, the event is spearheaded by Native American youth who serve as the head
staff, organizers, and lead dancers. It’s a living bridge between ancestral traditions and the leaders of tomorrow.

The day is packed with movement and music.  Set your alarms you won’t want to miss the “Grand Entry,” where the arena transforms into a sea of spinning regalia.

The afternoon will feature high-energy intertribal dancing, including the “Girls Smoke Dance,” the “Crow Hop,” and special performances from the Aztec Dancers.

Between dance sessions, take a stroll through the circle of exhibitors. You’ll find over 15 Native American artisans showcasing handmade jewelry, beadwork, and pottery. If you work up an appetite, follow the scent of frybread to the food vendors for a taste of traditional and contemporary Native cuisine.

From the thunderous pulse of the host drums, Old Days Singers and Young Waters, to the intricate storytelling of the dancers, the Eden Youth Powwow is more than an event, it’s an experience.
