Why: To encourage the playing of Traditional Scottish music – specifically on traditional instruments. (No electric instruments). Rural Hill is bringing to the forefront our Scottish Heritage.
Who: Anyone interested in playing traditional Scottish music, or learning traditional Scottish music. The session will be aimed at fiddles, guitars, bouzoukis, bodhrans, whistles, flutes, mandolins, cellos, etc. Pipes are also welcome but we understand that pipes and other instruments are not mutually friendly. However – we’ll work with it.
Genre of music: Traditional Scottish music played in a Scottish style. This will not be your typical Irish session. Emphasis will be on playing Scottish style to the best of our ability.
If you wish to come to start learning Scottish style music, we will gear the first hour of the session into talking about what that style is and learning some tunes in Scottish style. We will have a tunelist of basic Scottish tunes for both beginning and regular players. Music and stands are acceptable; recording the tunes is also acceptable.
Scottish Session will start out quarterly – next session being June 8 time TBA. You will leave with tunes to work on for the next session, and some recordings to track down to listen to.
Note: The Food Truck Rally will also be going on, so plan on getting yourself some yummy eats as well!
